Youth training program

Project Summary

In Uganda, there is a significant illiterate population, with women constituting 64% of the illiterate population, mainly due to lack of tuition to start and continue with their studies. This project will support Vulnerable Youth (VY) including school dropouts, young women, and vulnerable students by empowering them to acquire employable skills and improve their socio-economic prospects. The project will help in empowering Vulnerable Youth with vocational technical skills through LYDO's Vocational Technical Institutes in Western, Eastern, and Northern regions of Uganda.

Current Challenges

LYDO's Technical Institutes are playing a significant role in this project but still face different challenges:

  1. Limited Resources: Insufficient funding, inadequate infrastructure, and limited equipment hinder the quality and accessibility of vocational training programs.
  2. Lack of Awareness: Vulnerable youth are unaware of the vocational training opportunities available to them.
  3. Limited Job Opportunities: After completing vocational training, vulnerable youth may struggle to find employment.
  4. Inadequate Training Resources: Shortage of qualified trainers and essential training materials.
  5. Stigma and Discrimination: Vulnerable youth, particularly those living with disabilities or from marginalized communities, may face stigma and discrimination, making it difficult for them to access vocational training.

Our Solutions

  1. Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with local organizations, businesses, and government agencies to secure funding, resources, and expertise.
  2. Grant Applications: Research and apply for grants from national and international organizations that support vocational training programs.
  3. Support Services: Offer food and transportation support for vulnerable youth attending training programs.
  4. Mentorship Programs: Provide coaching and guidance to help vulnerable youth overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
  5. Job Placement: Connect vulnerable youth with potential employers and job opportunities.
  6. Volunteer Programs: Recruit volunteers to teach or assist with vocational training programs.
  7. Community Outreach: Conduct sensitization and awareness campaigns to educate the community about the importance of vocational training for vulnerable youth.
  8. Digital Marketing: Utilize social media platforms to promote vocational training programs and reach a wider audience.
