SUMMARY:
In Uganda, there is a significant illiterate population, with women constituting 64% of the illiterate population mainly due to lack of tuition to start and continue with their studies. This project will support Vulnerable Youth (VY) - school dropouts, young women and vulnerable students - by empowering them to acquire employable skills and improve their socio- economic prospects through LYDO's Vocational Technical Institutes in Western, Eastern, and Northern regions of Uganda.

CHALLENGES:
LYDO's Technical Institutes are playing a significant role in this project but still face several challenges:
- Limited Resources: Insufficient funding, inadequate infrastructure, and limited equipment hinder the quality and accessibility of vocational training programs.
- Lack of Awareness: Vulnerable youth are unaware of the vocational training opportunities available to them.
- Limited Job Opportunities: After completing vocational training, vulnerable youth may struggle to find employment.
- Inadequate Trainers and Training Materials.
- Stigma and Discrimination: Vulnerable Youth, particularly those living with disabilities or from marginalized communities, may face stigma and discrimination, making it difficult for them to access vocational training.
SOLUTIONS:
- Partner with Organizations: Collaborate with local organizations, businesses, and government agencies to secure funding, resources, and expertise.
- Apply for Grants: Research and apply for grants from national and international organizations that support vocational training programs.
- Donate equipment, tools, textbooks, software, online resources and machinery for vocational training programs.
- Offer food and transportation support for vulnerable youth attending training programs.
- Offer coaching and guidance to help vulnerable youth overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
- Connect vulnerable youth with potential employers and job opportunities.
- Volunteer to teach or assist with vocational training programs.
- Conduct sensitization and awareness campaigns to educate the community about the importance of vocational training for vulnerable youth.
- Utilize social media platforms to promote vocational training programs and reach a wider audience.
